Raising Global Awareness at Work

I work for one of the world’s largest Telecommunications companies, Tata Communications. We have 5,500 employees located all around the world and each month we have a monthly letter that goes out to the employee’s called “THE BUZZ @ Tata Communications” which is used to keep all employee’s updated on the latest news at our company.

Well, the next issue will include a summary on me and my fundraising. Here is a short summary of what will appear in the news letter.

“Brian Dowd, Director of Voice ILD Network Engineering, has been an avid supporter of the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) since being diagnosed with testicular cancer on June 2, 2006. To help fight cancer Brian started Team Down One, http://teamdownone.com.

Team Down One’s mission is to raise funds for the LAF supporting critical programs for cancer research, prevention, survivorship, clinical trials and one day a cure. We walk, run and cycle at the LAF’s LIVESTRONG Challenge series, http://livestrongchallenge.org, to help raise funds and awareness.

Since February 2007, with the help of family, friends and fellow Tata staff, Team Down One has raised over $43,000 to benefit the LAF. This year Brian ranked #9 out of over 3,000 participants in the LIVESTRONG Challenge Philadelphia having raised $15,700 and Team Down One ranked #22 out of 403 teams having raised over $22,000 and still growing.”

I was already trying (on a much smaller level) to raise global awareness on cancer at Tata Communications when Lance announced he was coming back to pro-cycling to try for an 8th Tour de France. It is funny how things work out.

I guess it is perfect timing that I can piggy-back on Lance’s announcement at my company. Not many people can get access to 5,500 people worldwide so I am extremely proud that I am able to spread the word.

LIVESTRONG!
