The Buzz @ Tata Communications - Sep 2008

From the Tata Communications monthly news letter.

Corporate Sustainability Program - Value Creation through Volunteering

Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare. Employee Volunteering has taken strong roots in Tata Communications, because it has a clear-cut vision of enriching lives and is based on an unequivocal conviction of work is worship. Employee volunteers here get a sensation of different kind when they reach-out to the community after a tension filled day of hard work. As a volunteer aptly puts it “I get my kick for a month just from a day of volunteering”. Employee Volunteers are routinely involved in many social services across the globe.

Team Down One Moves Up!

Brian Dowd, Director of Voice ILD Network Engineering, started Team Down One. Its mission is to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), supporting critical programs for cancer research, prevention, survivorship, clinical trials and one day a cure.

We walk, run and cycle at LAF LIVESTRONG Challenge series to help raise funds and awareness. Since February 2007, with the help of family, friends and fellow Tata staff, Team Down One has raised over $43,000 to benefit the LAF. This year Brian ranked #9 out of over 3,000 participants in the LIVESTRONG Challenge, Philadelphia having raised $15,700 and Team Down One ranked #22 out of 403 teams.
