Fundraising 2008

During such hard economic times it has been great to still see the support from everyone to help fight cancer. Here are some rough estimates I pulled from the livestrongchallenge.org website.

Location Est. Participants Est.Raised Est. AVG/Participant
Austin 7,000 $3,700,000 $529
Portland 3,000 $1,000,000 $333
San Jose 2,900 $1,500,000 $517
Philadelphia 5,000 $3,000,000 $600
Total 17,900 $9,200,000 $514

I was able to raise $16,384 in 2008. This is $294 short of what I raised in 2007. I point this out b/c in 2008 I raised funds from team sponsorships, friends, family, coworkers, etc. In 2007 I held 3 different events (2 large and 1 small) to raise $16,678. I set out in 2008 to prove that I can raise the funds without holding one single event and I am pleased to say it was a success.

Though I did not hit my $20,000 goal, $16,384 is nothing to be sad about. What a great success 2008 has been! I reached some many people who were not involved in the fight against cancer and now they are and all of them have promised to help out again next year.

2009 will be a big year for my fundraising. During the Ride for the Roses weekend I started laying out my plans for a golf tourney. I have several friends that have the experience holding a golf tourny so I look forward to a successful fundraising event.

Look for big things from Team Down One next year!
